Lost Chance at Rescue

The days are long and difficult, especially since I have to keep cleaning my glasses for the smudges. And I can't move too fast because of my asthma. I hope we get rescued soon.

Ralph and Simon have been trying to make shelters for the boys recently. I wish I could help them but Ralph doesn't ask me for help. I usually just try to stay out of his way, helping the little boys get food...

Jack has been working on his hunting skills, so I try to stay out of the jungle. I don't want to be confused with real pigs. Today I saw him running around with mud all over his face. Maybe he fell or something. I don't see why he didn't wipe it off though. He had a whole group of boys following behind him. I thought I saw Samneric with him, but I must have been wrong because they were supposed to be on fire duty on top of the mountain.

While we were out on the beach this afternoon Ralph said he saw a ship. A ship! That means people are looking for us! Oh I hope they come around soon so we can get off this island. Anyway, when Ralph pointed the ship out to Simon, Simon said that we didn't have a signal. I couldn't see the ship out on the ocean, but I could tell for sure that Ralph saw and it. And I could tell that the fire on top of our mountain had completely gone out! I guess that was Samneric I saw with Jack hunting earlier today. Those stupid boys don't know how to obey commands and do what they are supposed to do. If they hadn't left their post, our fire would still be lit and the ship would see us and come rescue us! I'll have to teach them a lesson later. Anyway, when we noticed that our fire was out, Ralph and Simon and me ran up the mountain as fast as we could. Well, they ran as fast as they could and I walked quickly, not wanting my asthma to flair up. Ralph and Simon got to the top of the mountain first, naturally, to find that the fire was dead and there was no way to revive it with me waddling up the mountain at my pace. Once I got there, Ralph said the ship was gone. He ran around screaming, telling the ship to come back, but I don't think they heard him...

Jack and his hunters came back, carrying a big fat pig! They brought it up to the top of the mountain where we were and showed it off to us. Ralph was furious though that Jack had taken the fire-keepers for the hunt. I understand where Ralph was coming from, but it sure will be nice to have some meat in our diets for once.

I sure hope that ship will come back soon and rescue us.
